photonamic GmbH & Co. KG is a German based company focused on innovative development and manufacturing of 5-aminolevulinic acid, known as 5-ALA in various applications in the healthcare field. We have developed Gliolan® for fluorescence-guided resection of glioblastomas, and Alacare® for the treatment of mild to moderate actinic keratoses (AK).
Our affiliated companies in the US and Japan are extending the development opportunities of 5-ALA even outside the field of photodynamic application. Examples include immune modulation in infectious diseases, food supplements and cosmetics.
History of photonamic
photonamic was founded in 2002. Our current CEO, Dr Ulrich Kosciessa, took over leadership of the company in 2007. That same year, Gliolan® was approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and launched across Europe. Two years later in 2009, another use of 5-ALA came to fruition when Alacare® obtained approval in several European countries. In 2012, SBI Pharma, our sister company (Member of SBI Holdings Inc. Tokyo, Japan), licensed Gliolan® for the Japanese market.
